:pinch:Īh ok, I thought this was vista since it was in the Vista forum Now, can someone tell me how to build a media playlist in a format that PS3 understands. I also found a small command line utility written by a 3rd party called fat32format which can format a disk very quickly, so I got the disk working using that and back to watching media on PS3. Neufuse: I should have specified that my error was from XP 圆4, it may very well still work a Vista prompt, I'll give it a try there. no reason to scrap the option altogether. Warnings aside about the performance of FAT32, Vista has a prompt for everything else so why can't it just bug me about really wanting to do this, letting me click "OK" and proceeding as I desire? They could have easily just left it as NTFS, FAT32, and (now including) exFAT. Since the update to SP1, doing the same procedure only gives me NTFS and exFAT as my formatting options. I could open the computer management view in Vista RTM, select create a new partition, set to the size of the whole external USB hdd volume (74.5gb formatted) and have the option between NTFS and FAT32 as my filesystem. If your really desperate download a gparted live CD and use that to format it as fat32. Anyone have a third party application recommendation.

My only other workstation uses XP 圆4 SP2 and does not have a FAT32 formatting option for drives over 32gb (only Windows Vista RTM did to my knowledge). (exFAT is Microsoft's FAT64 and does not work on PS3) I needed to reformat it for the first time since upgrading to SP1 but now I notice my only two native options in Vista are NTFS or exFAT. Did I just not look in the right place or is the option to format drives larger than 32gb with FAT32 been replaced by exFAT in SP1? I have used my Vista Business x86 RTM on several occasions to format my 80gb external hdd to FAT32 for Playstation 3 compatibility.
